MDRT Special Book Club Event – September 20

August 31, 2021 by mdrtnews

On April 10, 2012, United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills was critically injured by an IED while on patrol on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, losing portions of both legs and both arms. Mills struggled through the painful and anxious days of rehabilitation to regain the strength to live his life to the fullest. With enormous willpower and endurance, the unconditional love of his family, and a generous amount of faith, Mills shocked everyone with his remarkable recovery. His extraordinary journey is recounted in “Tough As They Come,” a New York Times bestseller that speaks to facing a future that’s drastically different from the one you’ve imagined.

The discussion will be moderated by Ryan J. Pinney, LACP, a 13-year MDRT member and Top of the Table qualifier who served in three different branches of the United States military over the course of 13 years. There will be a live Q&A session after the presentation. To get the most out of the time with Mills, members must read the book prior to the event and come with questions to ask the author.

July 26 Webcast: Mind the gap – How to motivate clients to secure adequate life coverage

June 23, 2021 by mdrtnews

Date: Monday, July 26, 2021
Time: 1–2 p.m. Eastern Time

A recent study from LIMRA and Life Happens determined that just 54% of Americans have any life insurance coverage, a significant decline from the previous decade. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are re-examining their priorities. In fact, 29% of Americans say they are more likely to buy life insurance as a result of the pandemic, while 68% of those who already have coverage would consider buying more. Clearly, this is a critical time in the life insurance profession, and it is more important than ever that advisors address this troubling gap in coverage.

MDRT, as part of the Help Protect Our Families initiative, presents a conversation with David Eric Appel, CLU, ChFC, and George B. Sigurdson, CLU, to examine how advisors can rise to the challenge and help clients and prospects see the value of life insurance. Appel and Sigurdson will share their ideas for guiding clients to obtain adequate coverage, including grasping the urgency of making a purchase before it’s too late.

The discussion will be moderated by nine-year MDRT member Meagan S. Balaneski, CFP, RFP. There will be a live Q&A session after the presentation.

Speakers:

  • David E. Appel, CLU, ChFC
  • George B. Sigurdson, CLU
  • Meagan S. Balaneski, CFP, RFP

Date: Monday, July 26, 2021

April 19 Webcast: The mind and the markets

April 6, 2021 by mdrtnews

MDRT Special Event_ The mind and the markets

Date: Monday, April 19, 2021
Time: 1–2 p.m. Eastern Time

In periods of market volatility, many investors fall short of their market objectives. During these times, emotion often overwhelms reason, irrationality trumps rationality, and thoughtfully constructed portfolios are exited. The mind and the markets — presented by Orion’s chief investment officer, Tim Holland, CFA, and chief behavioral officer, Dr. Daniel Crosby — examines four significant market topics from the investment and behavioral perspectives and frames them in a way that enables advisors to better engage with clients during periods of heightened volatility and uncertainty.

Those who attend will leave this conversation with useful tools to keep clients invested, regardless of what the market throws their way, all while strengthening the advisor-client relationship through conversations centered around outcomes.

Speakers:

  • Tim Holland, CFA, is the chief investment officer at Orion Advisor Solutions, where he oversees the investment management and strategies for Orion Portfolio Solutions and Brinker Capital Investments. Prior to his current role, he was the global investment strategist at Brinker Capital and worked with senior members of the investment team to develop and deliver Brinker Capital’s macroeconomic and capital markets outlook. Before that, Holland was a portfolio manager at TAMRO Capital Partners. His investment commentary can be found in various business media, including CNBC, Fox Business, Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio, The Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily and Financial Times.
  • Daniel Crosby, Ph.D., is the chief behavioral officer at Orion Advisor Solutions. He is a psychologist and behavioral finance expert who applies his study of market psychology to everything from financial production design to advisor-client engagement. Crosby has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry and has published bestselling books that serve as guides to building stronger advisor-client engagement. Crosby was named one of the “12 Thinkers to Watch’’ by Monster.com, a “Financial Blogger You Should be Reading” by AARP and one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by InvestmentNews.
