MDRT Academy & MDRT Mentoring: How it affects your advisors

Beginning January 1, 2022, the MDRT Academy and MDRT Mentoring Program have joined forces. As one unified offering, learn how your MDRT-aspiring advisors can join or how this program update affects those already enrolled in the Mentoring Program.

When can mentees apply to the MDRT Academy?

Mentees can apply to become 2022 MDRT Academy members starting Nov. 1, 2021. The application can be accessed and completed at mdrtacademy.org. Membership is annual and runs through Dec. 31.

How can MDRT Academy members participate in the mentoring program?

Academy members can complete an application in the MDRT mentoring platform, where mentoring relationships are facilitated. Current 2021 MDRT Academy members can fill out an application today.

Current Mentees

  • JOINED BEFORE JUNE 30, 2021 AND HAVE A MENTOR: You will be able to continue your mentoring relationship — as is — through the original 12-month mentoring timeframe. After that, you will need to become a member of the MDRT Academy to continue participating in the MDRT Mentoring Program.
  • JOINED AFTER JUNE 30, 2021 AND HAVE A MENTOR: You will need to become a member of the MDRT Academy by Jan. 1, 2022, to continue participating in the MDRT Mentoring Program.
  • JOINED IN 2021 AND DO NOT YET HAVE A MENTOR: You will need to become a member of the MDRT Academy by Jan. 1, 2022, to continue participating in the MDRT Mentoring Program.

You do not need to change the way you have been operating. Continue to connect with and help your mentee(s) through the MDRT mentoring platform. Please encourage your current mentee(s) to join the MDRT Academy to continue participating in the MDRT Mentoring Program in 2022.

As two separate offerings, the MDRT Academy and MDRT Mentoring Program have always shared one mission: To help financial advisors reach MDRT. As one unified offering, they are able to better deliver on that mission by creating a more comprehensive and meaningful experience for MDRT-aspiring advisors.

How does this affect your advisors?

  • Where: This change will affect mentees in regions where the MDRT Academy is currently available. In 2023, this change will start taking place in additional regions.
  • When: Starting Jan. 1, 2022, mentees need to be members of the MDRT Academy to participate in the MDRT Mentoring Program.
  • How Mentees can apply: Mentees can apply to become 2022 MDRT Academy members starting Nov. 1, 2021. The application can be accessed and completed at mdrtacademy.org. Membership is annual and runs through Dec. 31.
  • Current Mentors don’t need to change the way they have currently been operated within the program.

Encourage your advisors to join the Mentoring Program

MDRT has introduced exciting new changes to the Mentoring Program with a full rollout of the new online platform.

We understand the challenges facing new producers as they enter this business, and we recognize that a strong mentor can make the difference between success and failure. The revamped Mentoring Program provides a more robust structure and enhanced tools — with the goal of facilitating quality mentor-mentee relationships. It also includes resources to help with goal setting, milestone tracking, task management, data analytics and progress reports.

Our goal is to enhance the mentoring experience to drive increased productivity, engagement and professional growth.

SOME MDRT MENTORING PROGRAM FAQS

  • How much does it cost? Enrollment in the MDRT Mentoring Program is free.
  • What are the requirements to enroll? There is no production requirement. However, production must be reported by March 1 (for the preceding year) to be eligible to register to attend the Annual Meeting or Global Conference.
    You must also have a unique email address.
  • When can I apply? Enrollment in the MDRT Mentoring Program is open year-round.
  • How long is the program: The program is a 12-month guided plan
  • Who is eligible to be a mentor? All mentors must be current MDRT members.
  • What is included in the MDRT Mentoring Program? Mentoring teams receive access to MDRT’s Resource Zone, as well as monthly emails highlighting a piece of content that can be used for fruitful conversations. The new platform will include facilitated online matching, tools for goal setting and tracking, milestones and best-practice training.
  • How do I join the MDRT Mentoring Program? Enroll at mdrt.org/mentorship. Click on “Enroll in Program” and complete your profile. The system will prompt you and provide you with the best match for a mentor.
    You must also have a unique email address.

Can a Mentee Register for 2020 MDRT Meetings?

We have made the decision to conduct the 2020 MDRT Annual Meeting and 2020 MDRT Global Conference as one virtual event. MDRT will not be hosting a physical meeting in Anaheim or Dubai. Members will be given priority for registration for 2020 MDRT Virtual Event. If you have advisors who are mentees, they will be able to register after member registration, provided there is still availability; please note that seats are not guaranteed and recent meetings have sold out.

All mentees who are currently enrolled in the program, will be able to register for the virtual meeting this year, with no production requirement threshold.

Mentees will be eligible to register for this meeting, space permitting, if three criteria are met:

  • You are enrolled in the Mentoring Program by March 1, 2020.
  • Your mentor is approved for current MDRT membership and has registered to attend the Global Conference.
  • You have achieved at least 50 percent of the MDRT membership production requirement (USD 48,500 in commissions or USD 97,000 in premiums). You may attend a second time a mentee if you achieve 75 percent of the MDRT production requirement (USD 72,750 in commissions or USD 145,500 in premiums). 2019 production must be reported and all certifying letters received and verified by March 1, 2020.

After the member registration period, if all criteria have been met, the mentee will receive an “Approved to Register” email by March 31, which will contain instructions and links for registration. Payment is due at the time of registration.

If a mentee has previously attended the meeting as an MDRT member, they may not attend as a mentee.

How does the Mentoring Program work?

Members and mentees can be from anywhere in the world. Advisors’ online profile preferences will match them to suggested colleagues, and MDRT will give that team the tools to guide mentorship. The program is open year-round online.

There is no charge, but there is one requirement:
The matching, content, tips, tools and results that come from this interaction are all part of the MDRT experience. The only requirement is that nonmember mentees must report their year-end production to MDRT annually.

There are three ways for advisors to be involved in the program:

  • A nonmember mentee
  • MDRT peer mentoring for a member mentee
  • An MDRT member mentor
